June Meeting Minutes

Meeting started 7:06pm…7 residents attending

Saturday was the Sandrat Reunion and was a great event to have at the Union Pacific Depot, a little under 150 people in attendance. Linda and Tommy Lee were the people who managed the reunion. It has been an annual event that started 35 years ago.

T-shirts were donated to raise money for the Sandrat Reunion. North Lawrence Improvement Association events are always free at the Union Pacific Depot.

A resident raised concerns about fireworks during the Fourth of July that are sticks of dynamite with some parts of it removed, Ted recommended speaking with the county and contacting the Sheriff.

The plans for the pedestrian bridge attached to the current bridge across the river was discussed and it is still progressing with the city.

Ted mentioned that there is currently a meeting going on with the governor and Mike Amyx to push the quiet zone for North Lawrence and get the improvement implemented.

Ted spoke about where to send complaints when it comes to issues concerning the city and the North Lawrence neighborhood, while he mentions he can be reached out to, Ted implores residents to email the commissioners and contact them directly.

Ted is imploring more people to be more vocal.

Ted spoke about the issue concerning Mulford’s Tree Service. Mulford’s Tree Service was raided for harboring transients and criminals that were committing crimes across the City of Lawrence. Mulford’s Tree Service had the issues removed and gave the owner an ultimatum to remove the transients. Mulford’s Tree Service has now removed the people staying on their property and locks the gate.

339 Elm St is no longer owned by a landlord that was allowing felons and criminals to stay in the apartments. It is now owned by John Davis and will be rehabilitated.

Ted started discussing the corridor improvement plan currently in talks at the city. They are currently assessing the improvements and need to add new pump installation if they want to continue with their current plan.

A resident raised concerns about some dilapidated houses on Perry Street. Ted will reach out.
