Meeting started 7:00pm… 8 residents in attendance.
Ted talked about the responses from the city regarding the quiet zone and the pedestrian overpass and how the city is still overlooking and not addressing the available grant money from the Federal Railroad Administration that will get the quiet zone and the overpass established.
Steps have been made to get this adjusted and potentially move the project off the North Lawrence Corridor Improvement Plan so that the project for railroad improvement can be properly addressed.
Ted discussed the potential project to establish a plaque at the depot on the history of Jefferson, Kansas that used to be the city of Jefferson before being annexed into the greater city of Lawrence.
A resident discusses the stretch of road on the 500 block of Lincoln Street that is poorly maintained and wants Public Works to be aware of the issues with the road. Ted and the resident discussed all the work that has been done on the roads and he mentioned that he will bring up the issue concerning the 500 block of Lincoln Street.
Courtney Shipley attended the meeting and announced she will be running for city commission yet again. Courtney talked about code enforcement and how there have been issues in enforcement and that the code enforcement is not being made and so she is running yet again to make sure it is addressed.
A resident discussed an unsightly tree on their neighbors property and was wondering of code enforcement, but Ted discussed that their needs to be a danger that is causing issues. Ted will inquire about it.
A resident inquired about the Korean Church in North Lawrence at 6th and Lyon Street. A resident spoke about that it looks like the Korean Church is up for auction.
A resident asked about the 20 year old storm water study. Ted discussed the plan for the North Lawrence Corridor Plan and the storm water issues that are contained in the plan. Matt Bond is currently on the team for the study of the corridor the previous storm water engineer in Lawrence. Matt Bond is a great person to have on the project for the corridor plan.
Ted started discussing the plan about the airport as the airport is currently planning to expand the runways south so that they can start carrying 737 airplanes at the Lawrence airport. This will affect North Lawrence residents as the planes will start flying over North Lawrence.
Ted discussed that the city has taken a nonchalant approach to the solar project being pushed by the county. There has been no real incentive for the city to be involved in talks with the county concerning the solar project.
The airport expansion is currently in the planning stages.
Courtney Shipley mentioned that the World Cup may be pushing the airport to expand faster and have 737s flying through the airport.
